March 2005 Newsletter
(excerpt for web publication)

Spring is almost here!  Due to the light snowfall this year, many of us have visited the Big Sandy Bay Management Area throughout the fall and winter but many more of us are eagerly looking forward to spring walks.

The Friends steering committee is planning our first general meeting in early May.  We hope that you will join our organization in the next few weeks so that you will have an opportunity to vote at that meeting.  The membership form is on the reverse of this newsletter.

The15-member steering committee has been working to create the documents necessary to apply for incorporation and obtain charitable status.  The first submission to the Charities Directorate has been mailed.  When this submission has passed a preliminary assessment, we will officially apply for incorporation.  This process may take a few more months.

We would like to acknowledge the funding received from the Greater Kingston Community Foundation and the generous support of our founding members.

Please join us in some of the activities planned for this spring:
-Assisting the Big Sandy Bay Stewardship Committee (Committee of Council) to develop a “gathering area” behind the gatehouse.  This includes the creation of a grassy area, tree planting and placement of benches.
-Planting native trees in strategic areas within the management area
-Dune grass regeneration projects
