U.S. Customs

Coming from the US we have always checked in at customs. In the last year the Potters Beach reserve on Grindstone is allowing Canadians to use the beach without checking in at customs. Do you plan a similar policy for Big Sandy Bay?

Our inquiries with Customs revealed that their policy was that if a boat dropped anchor in Canadian waters it was deemed to have entered Canada and therefore was required to have checked in at Customs. The Township of Frontenac Islands manages Big Sandy Bay and they have no jurisdiction to alter Canada Customs regulations. There is a Customs dock on the south shore of Wolfe Island at the Horne Ferry and they have said that they can handle the "check-in " requirement.

You should be aware that Big Sandy Bay is now a managed environmental area and that there is a fee for coming ashore and using the facilities. If you plan to come often, purchasing a season’s pass is an economical way to enjoy the area.
